BPOS uses the Password Change Notification Service (PCNS) to pickup password changes and synchronize them into Office 365. This is done so the BPOS user will have credentials within Office 365 after Transition completes.
Admins have asked “When do/does password synchronization stop being performed?”, as this is an important part of the BPOS admins job, to make sure their users can login to Office 365 after Transition.
The PCNS synchronization process continues over the Transition Weekend, meaning that if a user’s password expires over this weekend or they want/need to change their Password, they can do so using one of the following methods:
Password Change Options over Transition Weekend
- Sign-In Client (SIC)
- Company Portal – Change Password link in top-right corner of webpage
- Microsoft Online Admin Center (MOAC) – Admins can reset passwords for end-users and other administrators

- Only viable BEFORE Transition lock, as the BPOS tenant’s ability to connect via PowerShell is disabled over the Transition Weekend, which means and Administrator must use the MOAC environment for password resets:
