DirSync PC Using Outbound Internet Proxy and Not Connecting – How to Fix It

Posted on Updated on

DirSync  When your Directory Machine runs to push users, contacts and groups from your Active Directory into the Online Services environment, either BPOS-S or Office 365, the machine requires Internet Access over port 443.  Sometimes companies have Internet access devices which restrict or limit who can access the Internet and Directory Synchronization does not natively have a configuration option for Proxy servers.  To address this particular configuration you can use the following:

Netsh:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731131(v=WS.10).aspx

  1. Start –> Run –> cmd.exe
  2. netsh
  3. netsh > set-proxy proxyServer:443
  4. Close command shell
  5. Restart the following services using the services.msc applet
    1. Directory Synchronization Service
    2. Microsoft Online Sign-In Assistant

Example:

  • set proxy myproxy
  • set proxy myproxy:80 “<local>bar”
  • set proxy proxy-server=”http=myproxy;https=sproxy:88″ bypass-list=”*.contoso.com”
